A soundbar creates the impression of surround with digital signal processing and reflections off your walls; how convincing it is depends entirely on the shape of the room. The 8800 drives six separate cabinets from six separate amplifier stages - front left and right at 300 W peak each, the center channel at 300 W, the two surrounds at 300 W each and the subwoofer at 1,000 W. Forty per cent of the system's peak power is committed to the low end alone. The Bass ZX subwoofer runs from 20 Hz to 100 Hz on its own dedicated amplifier stage, which is why the bottom octave arrives as pressure rather than as a boom - and why the four satellites are never asked to reproduce frequencies their 2.5-inch drivers were not built for.
The high frequencies run through Liquid Diamond tweeters, chosen for a stiff, low-mass diaphragm that keeps cymbals and consonants clean instead of glassy. Below them, Kevlar-reinforced cones hold their shape under load, which is what keeps the midrange - dialogue, in practice - legible when the rest of the mix is loud.

I care a great deal about audio fidelity and I was pleasantly surprised by the Kevlar-reinforced drivers. The response is fast, the midrange is balanced, and the separation between the 7.1 channels creates a very precise soundstage. For a complete package with a high-power receiver built in, the performance is at studio level.
